EtherCAT motion offers several significant advantages over pulse/direction control, making it a preferred choice for many industrial automation applications. Its high data throughput, low latency, synchronization capabilities, and reduced wiring requirements make it well-suited for numerous real-time motion control tasks. Our LS Electric controller family offers two highly-capable control options each designed to support EtherCAT's speed and versatility.
The XMC controller is a full EtherCAT master meaning it can communicate with any EtherCAT capable device including up to 16 EtherCAT servo or stepper systems and up to 32 remote EtherCAT I/O racks. The XMC utilizes the powerful XG5000 software to configure and program ALL the control logic for advanced motion as well as basic PLC applications.
LS Electric XGB PLCs are powerful PLCs with numerous advanced features including several IEC-based programming languages. Each PLC comes with embedded support for basic motion control applications or up to 2 EtherCAT communication modules can be added for up to 16 axes of precise EtherCAT positioning. The XGB PLC also uses the advanced XG5000 software but it utilizes the XG-PM application for motion axis setup and testing.
