For I/O-heavy systems, the Productivity3000 local expansion I/O modules can add up to 4 extra racks of I/O to a local or remote base group. Using local and remote I/O expansion modules, total system I/O capacity can increase to over 59,000 I/O points.

Productivity3000 Modular PLC - Expansion I/O
For applications that require more local I/O than what can be supplied by the main CPU base, expansion I/O modules allow for additional base groups of I/O to be installed in close proximity (less than 15ft.) to the main base. The USB-based P3-EX expansion modules can also be used with remote I/O base groups to add extra I/O in close proximity to the P3-RX remote I/O module.
