Ultrasonic proximity sensors emit a high-frequency sound impulse and measure the elapsed time of the returned echo signal reflected from a detected object. Their ultrasonic beams are not affected by colored, transparent, or shiny objects. Ultrasonic proximity sensors can perform distance measurements regardless of contamination, such as dirt, dust, mist, or ambient light. IO-Link capable ultrasonic proximity sensors can also provide diagnostic, performance, and configuration data, along with the analog or discrete signal, to the controlling device.
