Once a project has been established, we are ready to connect. To set up a USB connection with the CPU, we first need to plug a mini-B USB cable into the front of the CPU and into our programming computer. We will then use the “connection settings” screen to configure the connection. If we attempted to upload a project from an already programmed CPU, we would automatically be taken to this “connection settings” screen to establish the connection. If we have created a new project or opened an existing project offline, we will have to navigate to the connection settings screen. We will click on the icon of a plug with a gear or go to “Online > Connection Settings.” This will open the “Connection Settings” pop-up window. Once the window is open, we can select the connection type from the “Type” drop down. We will select USB for this. We can verify the USB driver has been installed by clicking on “settings.” We also have the option to reinstall the driver if we are having connection issues. We will leave the other settings at their default values as they will be sufficient for our application. There is further detail about these settings in the documentation for the XG5000 software. Now that we have configured the connection we will select “OK” if we are not ready to connect yet, or “Connect” if we want to establish the connection at this point. If we select “OK” we can easily initiate the connection when we’re ready, by clicking the plug icon or going to “Online > Connect.”
