GSoft2 by AutomationDirect is the quickest and easiest way to program your DURApulse drives including the GS10. GSoft2 software is completely free. Just go to AutomationDirect.com and search for GSoft2 or follow the link in the description. Since the GS10 does not have a USB port like some of the other DURApulse drives you’ll need a USB to 485 cable like the USB-485M. Once you have the software installed and you have your USB-485M cable connected to the drive, just use the connect button here. You need to know what com port your cable got assigned to. You can find that in the windows device manager. The software requires 38.4 kbps, RTU, 8, none, and 2. These are the default settings for the drive and the software. So often you can just click this com test button to verify. If that fails, use the auto detect button to tell the software to adjust the drive com settings to match. A neat feature of this is if you need com parameters to be something other than default - once you use the disconnect button, the software will reset these parameters back to their original settings. Once you have the settings done you can simply test again, or if you wish, just hit connect. Note that the firmware upgrade requires different port settings, and that is covered in a different video. One thing to keep in mind with the GS10 drives – there is only a single com port so, if you need a drive that requires multiple com ports, please look at the GS20 series. A really neat feature of the GSoft2 software is this virtual keypad. It’s like using the optional GS4 keypad – which we have a separate video on – so you have to make sure the remote and/or local configurations are set to use RS485 as their source for frequency and operation. That means setting the remote frequency source to RS485, Parameter 00.20 to 1, and remote command source to RS485 by setting P00.21 to 2. The greyed-out buttons aren’t active on the GS10 but you can run, change direction and stop the drive, and change the frequency. You can also jog by clicking here. You'll have to hit the stop to stop jogging. So that gets you familiar with the GSoft software with the GS10. We’ll cover more of the software functions, such as setting parameters and firmware upgrades, in other videos. One final note - at the time I am doing this video, GSoft2 only works with the GS10, GS20, and GS4 drives. But we do have free software for other drives we sell as well. The GS10 family of drives have an awesome feature set normally reserved for much more expensive drives. We have a step-by-step video tutorial library for the drive that will help you get up and running with these features quickly. Many of the GS20 videos will work on the GS10 as well. AutomationDirect is providing the products and support you need to make us your common- sense way to buy industrial controls. If you need more help, please see our tech support options here.
