Today let’s have a look at the XMC motion controller from LS Electric. This baby has XG5000 as a one stop shop for programming, to keep things simple. It’s capable of motion over EtherCAT for up to 16 integrated axes, and allows programming in G code for CNC applications. It even has PLCopen compatible motion blocks and IEC programming to boot! While it isn’t a true PLC in the sense that it doesn’t have an option for expansion slots, it can absolutely handle EtherCAT nodes including remote I/O modules. This should give you as much functionality as your application may require.
