The most common command signal type when using PLC-based motion control is the pulse train, also referred to as "pulse and direction". Pulse and direction signals provide an inexpensive, noise-free (digital) method for precision motion control. While typically limited to a few axes of control and where coordination between axes is not necessary, PLC controllers with pulse and direction capability are an excellent fit for many motion applications.
LS XGB PLC Motion Control
Command up to 6 pulse-train axes in a single standalone LS Electric XGB PLC. The embedded high-density I/O on select models provides 4 high-speed inputs and up to 6 high speed outputs at up to 200kHz. Configure axes with XG-PM motion software that is included with XG5000 programming package. Then use the XG5000's 70+ motion function blocks (in ladder or structured text) to perform various types of motion.
High-speed counter modules are also available to expand the controller's motion capabilities. Each module supports up to 4 channels of high-speed inputs up to 500kHz.
Productivity PLC Motion Control
Productivity PLCs are known for their extreme versatility and numerous convenience features. With ProductivityMotion products, you can easily add motion control to your Productivity system that's as simple or sophisticated as you need.
Productivity series high-speed input and output modules are a great option for basic motion control applications. Able to perform simple motion commands like homing routines and preset tables, these modules slide right into any open slot in any local or remote rack of a Productivity PLC system. High-speed counter and PWM modules are also available for high-speed or pulsed I/O applications.
Available in one to four axes models, the PS-AMC motion controller provides highly accurate positioning using encoder-fed control and is ideal for applications requiring several independent axes of motion and/or coordinated motion between some or all axes. Used in conjunction with select Productivity CPUs and programmed with the FREE Productivity Suite software, the AMC units can supply up to 1 MHz pulse-train command signals to servo or stepper drives for extremely responsive movements.
BRX PLC Motion Control
BRX PL Cs offer one of the most advanced instruction sets in the market and include many tools to tackle complex applications. Most BRX PLC units come with high-speed I/O built in and those that don't can easily add high-speed I/O with the addition of HSIO expansion modules. BRX on-board high-speed I/O provides up to 3 coordinated axes of motion with additional virtual axes for internal control and following applications.
BRX HSIO expansion modules can provide 250 kHz or 2 MHz high-speed I/O points with single-ended or differential configurations. Up to 4 coordinated axes of motion are possible on each HSIO module with up to 6 HSIO modules in a local rack.
CLICK PLUS PLC Motion Control
CLICK PLUS PLCs offer simple motion control for up to 3 axes of motion at an incredibly low price. Just place a high-speed capable slot module in slot O of the CPU and take advantage of point-to-point moves (with trapezoidal or s-curve profiles), multiple homing options, simple registration, linear and even circular interpolation.

LS Electric XGB PLCs provide numerous options both in hardware and software to meet the demands of advanced motion control applications.
Productivity PLC CPUs are powerful high-performance controllers that are easily scaled up or down to meet application requirements. Combined with ProductivityMotion components, these CPUs provide accurate high-speed tracking and/or multi-axis motion control.
BRX PLC units with built-in high-speed I/O can be used to coordinate up to 3 axes of motion alone or control many more axes when adding HSIO expansion modules. BRX CPUs and PLC units with no onboard high-speed I/O can also be used for motion control applications simply by adding one or more of the HSIO high-speed expansion modules.
CLICK PLUS CPU units with a high-speed output capable slot module in Slot 0 can control up to 3 axes of motion with CLICK-like simplicity and low cost.
