Unlike solenoid values that are electromechanical and utilize electricity for operation, pilot valves are purely mechanical and use fluid pressure to perform the opening/closing actions. Although they are less accurate and have a slower response time than solenoid valves, pilot valves offer a degree of safety since no electrical arcs are possible. They also provide greater durability, and deliver more torque for heavy load applications.
