Welcome to Part 1 of AutomationDirect’s three-video series Captron Caneo capacitive sensor switches. Captron’s Caneo Series high-performance sensor switches are activated by the inherent capacitance of a human body. No pressure is needed to activate one of these capacitive switches, and they will respond even to a gloved hand or, say, an elbow in a long-sleeved shirt. With no moving parts, there is nothing to stick or get hung up. The Caneo switches wire easily with M12 connectors, have a great look with a streamlined profile, and offer excellent visibility. All of the rugged Caneo capacitive switches carry an IP69K rating and are 100% water and oil-proof, shock-resistant, and nearly impervious to damage from mechanical stresses or extreme temperatures, whether high or low. AutomationDirect offers 2 different series of Caneo round capacitive switches, each with a variety of operator legends. Series 10 switches feature a 22mm barrel with operator sizes in 30 to 32mm. These versatile sensor switches are offered in three material constructions. The Standard models feature polycarbonate construction and 4 lateral spotlights for 360° visibility. The Stainless-Steel models feature stainless steel bases and bezels with polycarbonate operator surfaces. The Hygienic models, also featuring stainless steel bases and bezels with polycarbonate operator surfaces, meet all FDA requirements for use in industries such as food and beverage, medicine, and pharmaceuticals. Series 40 switches feature 20mm barrels and a large 63mm activation surface. With all polycarbonate construction, these large format switches offer a high visibility multi-function LED indication, and the display models allow for a fully configurable 7-segment, 4-character message display. At AutomationDirect.com, you can find Caneo switches in both the 10 and 40 series in different configurations for out-of-the box performance in a variety of behaviors. Button action types are available in Static, Dynamic, and Toggle models. A Static switch acts like a momentary button – the output will be on as long as the operator surface is activated. A Dynamic switch’s output will remain on for a set amount of time – preset to 300ms - when the button is activated. A Toggle switch acts as a push-on, push-off button. Activate the switch once to turn on the output, which will remain on until the switch is activated again, toggling the output to off. The pushbuttons’ LED indicators are controlled in one of three ways, depending on the model’s LED Control type. An Automatic type switch will display its Color 1 when not active, and switch to Color 2 when activated. Automatic-configured switches use a 3-wire connection and need no other inputs from a PLC or controller. A Semi-Automatic switch uses a 4-wire connection and allows for external control of LED Color 1. Perfect when your application calls for an indication to prompt an operator action, for instance. When the button is activated, the display switches to Color 2. A Manual switch uses a 5-wire connection, allowing for independent external control of both LED Colors 1 and 2. A touch on the operator surface activates the output. These sensor switches are also offered in Green / Red - that is, Color 1 green, Color 2 red - and Red / Green options. As you can see, the Caneo series devices deliver a ton of functionality and straight out of the box are ready to go to work as Normally Open, PNP output, capacitive switches. Their greatest feature, however, may lie in their IO-Link capability. Connecting to one of these switches through IO-Link unlocks access to a full range of configuration options that takes their functionality to a whole different level. In the next video, we’ll explore using these versatile sensor switches from Captron in an IO-Link system with other components available from Automation Direct to see what they really can do.
